Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal remains optimistic that goalkeeper David De Gea could still be at Old Trafford even after the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old had an exceptional season under the Dutchman as he played a crucial role in helping the Red Devils finish the season in top four. He has one year left on his contract and has not signed a new deal.
De Gea has been linked with a return to Spain as La Liga giants Real Madrid are interested in securing his services. He has not decided on his future as the 10-times European champions have already issued an ultimatum to the star stopper.
When asked in his pre-match press conference for Hull City clash whether De Gea could stay, Van Gaal said: “I believe still that David de Gea shall stay.”

The former Ateltico Madrid man was replaced in the second half during United’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal. He was replaced by his compatriot Victor Valdes, who made his first team debut after coming on as a substitute.
However, Van Gaal admitted De Gea has trained with the squad on Friday and also revealed captain Wayne Rooney will start against Hull at KC Stadium for the final fixture of the season.
“That I don’t know yet,” Van Gaal told MUTV when asked about De Gea’s fitness.
“He has trained today but only with our goalkeeper trainer. He still has a little problem so I want to wait a day longer because I want him to play against Hull City. Rooney is available. He is the captain so I can say he shall play.”
“Yes, this is not a problem, but I think De Gea is a better goalkeeper. It’s also our last match of the season. I think you have to put out your strongest team because it’s very important for Hull.”
