Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has extended his loan spell with Manchester City till the end of the season on Monday.

The former England international arrived at the Etihad in the summer of 2014 on a short temporary move from New York City FC. The midfielder was set to return to the Major League Soccer side when the season kick starts in March.

However, now there has been change of plans as the Premier League champions wants his services till the end of the ongoing campaign.

“Manchester City can confirm that it has extended Frank Lampard’s contract up to the end of Manchester City’s season, enabling his continued participation in both domestic and European campaigns,” City released a statement on their club’s official website.

The 36-year-old was allowed to leave the Stamford Bridge on a free transfer after the end of the last season. Lampard joined New York City FC on a free transfer last summer and then returned to the Premier League on a loan spell.

The Blues legend has been one of the players who has had a massive impact on City’s bid to defend the title this season. His first team appearances have been limited as he has started only three games and has come from the bench on 11 occasions in the league.
