Manchester City’s Robinho turns down Fenerbahce move

Manchester City’s Robinho turns down Fenerbahce move

Dec 13, 2024 5:33 PM

Manchester City forward Robinho has turned down a move to Turkey, but the Brazil star says that he has options in Italy and Spain.

Besiktas were said to have tabled an offer of 26m (16m + 10m in add-ons), but it was Fenerbahce who made an official move for the 26-year-old. However, Robinho spurned the opportunity to join a Brazilian contingent at Fenerbahce that includes World Cup teammate Andre Santos.

Instead, the former Real Madrid star is holding out for a move to either La Liga or Serie A, with his future set to be decided in the next week. In comments to globoesporte.com, the 26-year-old said, “With all due respect to Turkish football, I’m not going to play there at the moment.

“The only thing I’ll say is that I’ll carry on in Europe, in Italy or Spain.”

“Fenerbahce were the only team who sent an official [transfer] proposal but it’s already decided that I’m not going.

“I’ve got talks going on but I can’t reveal anything yet. A week is time to do a lot of things.”

If Robinho doesn’t make a move before the transfer window closes, Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has left the door open for him to have a future at Eastlands, though he conceded that the Samba star has his sights set on a move. “Robinho has two or three options.”

“I have spoken with Robinho and he can stay if he works well and trains well. I have a good relationship with him but I think he wants to play in Italy or Spain.”
