Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
English Premier League
21 March 2010
Liverpool would start off strong but Manchester United came back to get a 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
It was a dream start for the Reds who would score in the 5th minute off a Fernando Torres header. Unfortunately for the visitors, they couldn’t hold the lead as Manchester United would level the match later in the first half.
Valencia would get a penalty kick for his side as Mascherano was called for a foul in the box and given a yellow card. Rooney would take the penalty and have the first shot saved by Pepe Reina but he scored on the rebound. It was now 1-1 with only 10 minutes played. The rest of the first half was scoreless as it headed into halftime tied at 1-1.
Manchester United were the better team for most of the match and would grab the lead in the second half. A cross from Darren Fletcher was headed into the back of the net by Park for a 2-1 lead. Liverpool would be unable to find the equalizer and would lose another match on the road. It was a match that Liverpool could have drawn but their road form continues to be poor.
It wasn’t the most dominating or impressive performance but Manchester United got the three points and is now top of the table again.
