Manchester United have climbed up to the top of the Premier League table after their 3-0 comfortable victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

A move to take the top spot was possible after their derby rivals Manchester City suffered 1 4-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. (Read seven talking points from the game between Spurs and City).

The Black Cats managed to restrict United from scoring and were heading into the break. Injury to Fabio Borini, where he needed attention and also United striker Anthony Martial in the first half forced the game to extend by four minutes before the end of the half.

A pass from Daley Blind to Juan Mata saw the former Chelsea star pass it to Memphis Depay, who made no mistake to score his first goals in the Premier League. Just after break, it was Wayne Rooney, who ended his goal drought in the league as the England international scored his first goal since April 2015.

A cross from Ashley Young deflects Sunderland defender, before landing in front of Mata, who converts to extend United’s lead. Anthony Martial failed to find the back of the net, but his influence was very crucial for other players.

A good day for United fans as they moved on top of the table, Rooney scored and David de Gea is back saving, which allowed him to keep him to keep a clean sheet.
