According to reports in Holland, Manchester United are close to acquiring the services of AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in the coming summer transfer window.
The report claims that new manager Louis Van Gaal wants to bring the 24 year old to Old Trafford who is recuperating from a serious knee injury which ruled him out of the World Cup.
Strootman had a great start to his Serie A career with Roma since arriving from PSV Eindhoven last summer, scoring 5 goals and grabbing 6 assists in 25 appearances for Rudi Garcia’s side before injury cut short his impressive run of form.
It is believed that Van Gaal has been handed a whopping £200m transfer kitty for the summer as the Dutch legend will try to get United back on track after a disastrous 2013-14 campaign under David Moyes.
Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport have also claimed that Roma technical director Walter Sabarini who previously ruled out a transfer for Strootman would now be willing to negotiate if the Red Devils table a massive €35m for the midfielder.
United are in desperate to strengthen their midfield for the next season and Strootman would seamlessly fill in at Old Trafford thanks to his brilliant passing array which would suit Van Gaal’s 4-3-3 setup. Moreover the Roma man is a brilliant tackler of the ball and with Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie in front of him, his through balls can cause mayhem for the opposition.
Should United land Strootman in the summer it would be a major coup for the Red Devils who can build the team around the midfield maestro.
