After we had reported a couple of days back that Porto full back Danilo would cost €50m, his transfer release clause, Manchester United could move for Southampton right back Nathaniel Clyne, the player who was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
A report from English media outlet Mirror claims that Clyne has refused to pen a new deal at the south coast club as United are alerted by the recent developments. This would mean that that the Red Devils would move for Clyne as soon as the summer transfer window opens and could seal a move for the player on the cheap as his contract with the Saints runs till July 2016.
It is believed that Louis Van Gaal is a huge admirer of Clyne who is rated at €12m by Transfermarkt. Moreover the full-back admitted earlier that his he will not decide his future until April, “We will wait until April. I’m still negotiating my contract with my agent and the club.”
Clyne would be a great signing for United for the right back slot as he is tried and tested in the Premier League with enough experience. Van Gaal is reportedly unhappy with Rafael’s defensive contributions despite his attacking potential while Antonio Valencia is being used just as a temporary solution.
