Manchester United manager, José Mourinho, is looking to sign Dimitri Payet next month and has already contacted the player personally.
Dimitri Payet has had a sensational career in England so far. The French international joined West Ham last summer and ended up becoming one of the best players in the league. He managed to score 12 goals with West Ham last season and has scored twice this season. Payet then went on to have a memorable Euro 2016 and has carried that form into this season, as well. It is understandable why big clubs are eyeing up a move for him.
Le 10 Sport have published an exclusive claiming that the Portuguese tactician is very fond of Payet and wants to add a creative player to his side when the January window opens. Apparently, Mourinho thinks that Griezmann would be the perfect addition for the Red Devils, but the Atlético frontman won’t be sold in the middle of the season.
There is no doubt that Payet would improve every team in the league, but signing him could damage Martial‘s chances at United. Ever since Ibrahimović arrived, Martial has been used on the left and if Payet comes in, the former Monaco forward will have to be content with a part-time role.
Despite his poor form this season, Martial is a world-class talent and deserves to play regularly. It seems a bit strange that Mourinho is willing to upset the best talent at the club in favour of a temporary solution.
Having said all of that, it will be interesting to see how West Ham respond to this supposed interest. The Hammers are just one point clear of the relegation zone, and losing their best player now could be damaging to their survival expectations.
