Manchester United star admits Old Trafford future uncertain

Manchester United star admits Old Trafford future uncertain

Nov 18, 2024 11:43 PM

RvpRvpRobin van Persie has revealed that his future at Manchester United is uncertain beyond his current deal.

The Dutch international has 18 months left on his contract at Old Trafford and has not been handed a new deal. He will turn 32 later in August and will have only a year left on his contract before the start of the next season.

Van Persie claims he is unaware as to what will happen after his contract expires as the striker admitted that it is up to the club to decide.

“It is not up to me. For the moment I am staying here for 18 months. That is it really. I can’t look into the future. I don’t know what is going to happen after that. We shall have to wait and see,” Van Persie said, as quoted by the Guardian.

The former Arsenal striker was instrumental in his debut season at United as he helped the Red Devils win the 20th league title, which was Sir Alex Ferguson final year in charge at Old Trafford.

Since then, Van Persie has seen a dip in his form as he struggled with injuries. This season, he has managed eight goals from 20 league appearances. The Dutchman admitted that he is not happy with his performance so far this term.

“Obviously we are not scoring enough goals, including me. I have to be honest. But if you look at [it] – I get chances every game. That is what makes me happy. I get one or two, sometimes three,” the Dutch international said.

“When you look at the chance, for example, against Cambridge, I don’t think I can blame [Angel] Di Maria for the great pass or blame myself for the way I hit it. I am convinced that if we keep doing what we are doing, because we do create chances, if the strikers just take those chances that we are doing I think we have a chance of scoring again.

“I think everyone in the team is responsible. Everyone feels responsible. I do definitely. This year I have played something like 20 [25] games and I have scored eight goals. I am not happy with that. I want to score more.

“I will do everything, every day in training and during the games I will keep doing what I have been doing for the last 10 years to make those goals. It makes so many people happy. Including me,” United striker concluded.
