Ajax sporting director, Marc Overmars has confirmed that Jasper Cillessen is not for sale at any price.
The Holland international has been earmarked as an ideal replacement for David De Dea, who is likely to move to Real Madrid this summer.
The Spanish international has enjoyed a splendid season at Old Trafford and helped United return to the Champions league. The Manchester United player of the year is set to replace club legend Iker Casillas at the Bernabeu after agreeing personal terms with the Spanish club.
Although Real Madrid are yet to agree a fee with Manchester United and a deal is far from done, it is believed that Louis Van Gaal is actively looking for replacements.
Cillessen has worked under Van Gaal for the national team and the duo are well versed with each other’s methods. Van Gaal is thought to be looking for a keeper who can play out from the back and Cillessen seems an ideal fit.
The Dutch keeper is valued at 25 million euros and Manchester United would happily part with the sum, should De Gea secure his move to Real Madrid.
Marc Overmars confirmed that Ajax are determined to resist any potential sale even if United were to pay the supposed 25 million euros.
Jasper is not for sale, not even for 25 million euros,” said Overmars.
Cillessen seems like an ideal candidate to replace De Gea. The Dutch keeper boasts excellent reflexes and is good with the ball at his feet. At 6’2″, Cillessen’ commanding presence will be an asset in the Premier League.
Despite the resistance, Ajax are known to sell their stars for the right price. Should Manchester United come calling with a big money offer and the lure of Champions League football, will it be possible for Cillessen and Ajax to resist the temptation perhaps not.
