Manchester United vs Liverpool: Goals, Highlights & Twitter reaction

Manchester United vs Liverpool: Goals, Highlights & Twitter reaction

Oct 3, 2024 6:16 AM

Manchester United eased to a 3-1 win against fierce rivals, Liverpool this evening. Goals from Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and a wonderful solo effort from Anthony Martial sealed a comfortable win for Louis Van Gaal and his side.

The defeat is set to pile on more pressure on Brendan Rodgers. The former Swansea man has been severely criticised for his tactics and team selection last season. Having spent several millions in the summer window, it seems that nothing has changed.

Liverpool started the game with a negative approach, looking to defend and hit United on the break. However, sloppy passing and poor movement meant that the visitors were camped inside their own half for the majority of the game.

Liverpool lacked any sort of game plan or desire. With the likes of Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino played out of position, the Reds struggled to create anything meaningful throughout the game.

New signing Christian Benteke offered a glimmer of hope with his stunning overhead kick towards the end, but Liverpool failed to capitalize and were pegged back by debutant Martial, who made it 3-1 four minutes from time.

After a boring first 45 minutes, the game burst into life when Daley Blind scored from a fantastic free-kick routine. The lead was doubled when Joe Gomez caught Ander Herrera in the box. The Spaniard converted the penalty and put the game beyond any doubt.

Although Benteke scored late on, Liverpool rarely posed any threats and the game was wrapped up by Anthony Martial, who skinned Martin Skrtel and slotted home.

Without further delay, let us look at some of the cracking goals scored at Old Trafford this evening.

Bottom Line: The Fact Liverpool have Square pegs in round holes all over the pitch – after you’ve spent £300m – is not good enough. — Nicky Allt (@NickyAllt) September 12, 2015

I hate calling on Liverpool managers to go – but I’m sorry, we are NOT progressing., We are going backwards – even with an enormous spend. — showmethemoney (@smtm_LFC) September 12, 2015

Don’t care if he never scores a goal again. A goal like that for a 19 year old on his debut against Liverpool. Unbelievable.

Supporting Liverpool should be a pleasure not arduous. It has been the latter for a while and there’s no change in sight. — Si (@TalkingAnfield) September 12, 2015
