Manchester United will have to pay £60m to land Serie A star

Dec 14, 2024 10:52 PM

Manchester United have reportedly set their sight on signing Kevin Strootman in January. Last month Daily Mirror reported that Strootman had set his heart on joining Old Trafford and changed his agent to link-up with Robin van Persie’s adviser.

The 24-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury he suffered in March and wasn’t available in the summer transfer window. The Dutch international is on course to be fit by December, and English press are anticipating a January bid for him from Manchester United.

Roma are not keen to part ways with Strootman and insist their prized asset is not for sale. The Gialorrossi are in a strong financial position and do not need to sale any of their star players unless the offer is too tempting to put down.

According to GDS, Roma could be tempted to sell, only if Manchester United put up an offer around £60m for the Dutchman. Strootman, who joined Roma from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2013 for around 20m, is also thought to be a reported target of Real Madrid.

Roma have started the season brightly and are leading the table along with Juventus. The midfield trio of Nainggolan, Pjanic and De Rossi have done brilliantly so far and it can only get better when Strootman returns from injury.

Louis van Gaal has openly admitted his interest in the Dutch midfielder, but unless the player himself wants to move, it is highly unlikely that Roma would sanction any deal for his departure in January.
