Manchester United have had a disastrous campaign this season, where for this first time in over a decade, the Red Devils will finish outside the top four. Put simply, there will be no Champions League football next season at Old Trafford.
Therefore the summer is very crucial for them. A new manager is expected to take charge while he will be given a hefty transfer war-chest to rebuild the squad.
While several players are expected to arrive, few could be shown the door as well. And one of them could be Portuguese winger Nani, who has made only six league starts this season so far. He has recently returned to action, after serving long spell on the sidelines through hamstring injury.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport suggested that Juventus are interested in Nani while Portuguese outfit Benfica are also keen to add the winger to their ranks.
The Old Lady are long term admirers of Nani but they feel now is the best chance to land the 27-year-old. According to the Italian media, Benfica had already made contacts with Manchester United over the availability of Nani, but his high wages could be a stumbling block in securing the deal.
However, Portuguese newspaper Record suggest Benfica denied to have made any contact with the player’s representatives and that there has been no agreement in place to bring the Portuguese international at the Stadium of Light.
