Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is likely to miss several key games for his club due to an ankle injury.

According to reports from Sky Sports, the Dutch striker will miss around a month of first team action after damaging his ankle during the match against Swansea City.

Van Persie was seen leaving the Liberty Stadium on crutches and with a protective boot on his right foot after he fell awkardly during the closing stages of the match.

Despite the injury, Van Persie stayed on the pitch as United had used all of their subs that might have aggravated the injury.

Van Gaal is expected to clarify Van Persie’s injury situation in the press conference on Friday to preview his side’s game against Sunderland.

The Dutch striker, who earns a reported wage of £12.2m/year will not only remain absent for the Sunderland game but could also miss the FA Cup quarterfinal against Arsenal and two important Premier League ties against Tottenham, and Liverpool.

In absence of Van Persie, Manchester United could use either Wayne Rooney as a lone striker or use Radamel Falcao up front alongside the skipper.
