Manchester United’s Liam Grimshaw completes Preston move

Nov 14, 2024 1:34 AM

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sell the versatile central midfielder Liam Grimshaw to Preston.

The Premier League giants recalled the youngster from his loan spell at Motherwell and have accepted an offer for him from the Championship outfit.

Grimshaw impressed during his loan spell at Motherwell and caught the eye of Preston manager Simon Grayson. The Championship club were keen to secure his services permanently and got in touch with Manchester United last week.

Grimshaw made 16 appearances for the Scottish Premiership side after joining them on loan last September.

Preston have enjoyed an amicable relationship with the Premier League giants having agreed two deals with Manchester United previously. Preston signed Ben Pearson and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on loan from Old Trafford earlier this month.

The player has now completed his move to Preston, without making his Premier League debut for Manchester United.

Speaking about Grimshaw, the Preston manager Simon Grayson said: “He is a very versatile player. He can play at right back, he can play on the right side of a three and he can play in midfield. He likes a tackle, has a lot of energy about him and has a good pedigree, because of where he is coming from.”

“He is another young, hungry player that we seem to be developing and attracting. We have some good competition in his area of the pitch and we have some experienced players who will help him on the way.

Furthermore, Grimshaw also confirmed that he is delighted with the move and is looking to take the next step in his career by playing regularly.

He said: “I have been at Manchester United a long time, but I am ready to move on and make a career for myself.

“This is a chance to get my career going. It is great to be back home in Lancashire and I am looking to get settled and start to kick on with my career.”
