This summer Chelsea had been linked with a move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane. The Blues lost David Luiz to PSG and reports emerged that Mourinho was looking at Varane to replace him at the Bridge.
Varane struggled in the early part of last season to make any bright impression in Carlo Ancelotti’s team, but came back strongly and put up a strong performance in the Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
When Mourinho was asked to comment on Chelsea’s interest in Varane, he said in an interview: “Everyone says he’s going to Chelsea because they know I like him a lot. However, everyone knows he will stay at Madrid.”
The Special One also added that he refused a coaching job for PSG last season, as he feels winning the league in tEngland adds more prestige than winning the French League, although he does not rule out the possibility of managing PSG in future.
Mourinho furthermore was full of praise for Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who has been in sparkling form this season having netted three hat-tricks already.
“Cristiano is like Zidane, there’ll never be another player quite like him. He’s an incredible player, a goal-scoring machine. I don’t need to say what everyone already knows.”
