September, 11: Mourinho Confirms Courtois needs surgery

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed Thibaut Courtois will be out for “quite a long time” and requires surgery on a knee injury.

There have been mixed reports on how long Courtois will be sidelined after he sustained the injury in training following his return from International break. According to Mirror Football’ Spanish correspondent, Ed Malyon, Thibaut Courtois has been treated in Barcelona and could be out for four months.

Belgium newspaper HLN reported that Courtois could be out for 10 weeks, while several publications suggested the stopper could be missing for a month.

Courtois is a world class goal keeper, who impressed on loan with Atletico Madrid, before returning to London in 2014. The 23-year-old quickly claimed the #1 spot, despite the presence of Petr Cech.

It seems like Chelsea will be without Courtois for a long time, but Asmir Begovic, the new summer signing who replaced club legend Petr Cech, is more than capable of handling the pressure in absence of Courtois.

Begovic is an experienced goal keeper who impressed during his spell with Stoke City. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has confirmed  Oscar won’t be available against Everton but the Brazilian attacker is “almost there” and could be in contention to feature next week.
