Newcastle in talks with Chelsea to re-sign Demba Ba on loan

Newcastle United are in talks with Chelsea over a possible loan move for their former striker Demba Ba, according to reports from Sky Tyne and Wear.

The Senegal international joined Chelsea in the January transfer window of last season on a three-year contract after the Blues successfully activated his £7 million release clause.

The 28-year-old joined the Magpies in 2011 from West Ham United and has scored 29 league goals in two seasons. However, upon moving to Stamford Bridge, he only managed two league goals post January while this campaign under Jose Mourinho, he has yet to open his goal scoring account.

Newcastle are under some pressure to bring in a few players, having failed to land any major names, apart from Loic Remy, who joined on loan from QPR. Moreover, the problems are compounded for the Tyne side club, as they are poised to lose their talisman midfielder Yohan Cabaye. The Frenchman has been targeted by Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, with the latter favourites to sign him in few days.

Chelsea have a shortage of striking options under Mourinho, who has only Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku as other strikers at disposal, but could be willing to offload Ba on loan.

Also, reports emerged today that Newcastle are back in frame for Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis. The 28-year-old has been on Newcastle’s radar for some time now and even a deal was agreed with the French club earlier this month, only for the deal to stall.

Newcastle pulled away from the transfer two weeks ago, but such is the emergency tracheotomy at St James’ Park, manager Alan Pardew is forced to reconsider the deal again.
