NFL: Aaron Rodgers 2021 season plan ‘a couple weeks’ away

Nov 27, 2024 3:38 AM

The Aaron Rodgers situation has been the big talking point of this NFL off-season – will he stay a Green Bay Packer, be traded or retire

The most recent twist in the story, reported by NBC Sports, came from the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament on Saturday.

Rodgers was asked once again about his plans for the 2021 season and if he will be in Green Bay.

The reigning MVP declined to answer but did give us an insight into when he will make his decision.

“I’m going to enjoy the hell out of this week,” Rodgers said, “and then I’m going to get back to working out and figure things out in a couple of weeks”.

Packer’s training camp starts on July 27, just over two weeks from now. If Rodgers statement is true, we should have some clarity on the situation soon.

The future Hall-of-Famer has already missed the team’s mandatory mini camp in June and is yet to deny allegations of his desire to be traded.

It has been speculated the fallout arose from the team’s 2020 draft pick, Utah State quarterback Jordan Love.

However, back in May, Rodgers told ESPN his issue is not with Love at all.

“I love Jordan – he’s a great kid,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of fun to work together.”

“Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years.

“It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go.

“It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”

Both parties have a lot of reconciling to do if the MVP is to be under centre for them during the 2021 season.

Green Bay will be expecting Rodgers to play in 2021 as he is under contract through to 2023, and the Packers are not ready to pick Jordan Love.

If no agreement is reached, Rodgers has the ability to sit out the 2021 season, but it could cost him $35 million.
