We followed the new collection of 10/11 Nike Boots very closely here at Soccerlens, covering the latest creations from the American company, giving you the most detailed descriptions of the new football boots put for sale by Nike. The only new Nike boot left to review is the all new Nike Tiempo Legends Elite, the boot of choice for Ronaldinho and Carlos Tevez. Besides being the most popular Nike boot in the past, when Ronaldinho was in his prime, the Legends are a pair of boots that haven’t changed much in terms of design in the last few years, a boot with a remarkable longevity that hasn’t been completely re-made these past seasons. They received a colour makeover for the new season, and I’m proud to present it to you in all its glory. Here’s the preview from Nike:
Nike boot previews are always fantastic, giving the very best shadows and lighting. The new Nike Tiempo Legends Elite (Nike has to change the name) look fantastic, put next to any other football boot out there. I’m glad Nike went for a relatively simple colour scheme for them, rather than make them in hot pink or something like that. While previous versions featured gold, this one is silver, with red accents.
The Tiempo Legend Elite is a boot made for improving touch, made for flair players who emphasize skill over other attributes. However, Nike have dropped the weight of the boot since previous versions worn by Ronaldinho, which is a very good improvement in my opinion. My old pair of boots was the original black and white Nike Tiempo Legend pair, which was a bit on the heavy side, but probably the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve had in the past 5-6 years.
“Legends are made with the speed of a bullet to the back of the net. Game changing plays start from the magic of the first touch, to every earth-shattering finish.” That’s the main reason that Nike tried to improve the weight of this boot, which they achieved for the new season. The boot is made for speed and touch, using the revolutionary Kanga-Lite Synthetic material on the upper. This saves a lot of weight compared to traditional heavy leather. Here’s a close-up of the Kanga-lite stamp:
Another way that Nike managed to save on weight and deliver the same comfort and touch is the bottom, which is an innovation used on the Mercurial Vapor Superfly II’s and the other new Nike boots as well. The bottom on the new Legend Elites is made from a carbon-fiber material, which gives a good ratio of strength to weight. The stud configuration also contributes to the lower weight, especially in the Firm ground version. Firm ground studs should be used when the field is slightly wet, but not muddy. The firm ground studs are a combination of elliptical and bladed studs to give multi-directional traction.
On the inside, the new Tiempo boots come with a high-performance, moulded sock-liner for unbeatable cushioning and comfort. This gives the player a very low-to-the-ground fit which helps with quick pivoting and turning. The light outsole gives the player a multi-directional traction for quick quits and fast breaks. The design of the boot also gives stability and control, with support from a contoured heel which features enhanced leather coverage for a better fit.
The Tiempo Legends also include a fold-over tongue pictured below, which is the same material as the main body of the boot. I love the cover, and I wish they had it on the CTR 360 Maestri Elites as well, as it’s a control boot with open laces, which gives less grip with the laces.
The colour combination of this new pair is my all-time favorite combination on the Nike Tiempo Legend boots, and rivals the new T90 Lasrer Red/Black boots for me. The combination just works for this pair, and it really shows off the Kanga Lite leather from Nike. As a previous Legend owner, I can recommend the pair, even though I’ll have a full review of the performance of this particular boot very soon.
