Norwich City are closing in on a deal to sign Italian striker Mattia Destro from AS Roma on loan, according to The Times.

The 24-year-old, who spent the second half of the 2014/15 season on loan at Roma’s domestic rivals AC Milan, is also interesting Bologna but Norwich are believed to be on the verge of sealing a loan deal.

The Canaries have already added five new faces to their squad over the summer, namely, Robbie Brady, Andre Wisdom, Jake Kean, Youssuf Mulumbu and Graham Dorrans, and Destro’s arrival will boost the newly-promoted Premier League club’s attacking ranks.

Norwich have five strikers in their books and Destro’s addition will bolster their attack considerably. The Italian international played 31 times in the Serie A last season for Roma and Milan, and found the back of the net eight times.

Destro scored 13 goals for Roma in the 2013/14 season which attracted interest from big clubs like Chelsea and Wolfsburg, but saw his stock plummet over the course of last season, and could find himself lining up for English minnows Norwich before the transfer window closes on the 1st of September.

He is an Italian international and has played eight times for the Azzurri, with one international goal to his name. Destro will also bring Champions League experience to Norwich, having played in the elite European competition for Roma last season.
