Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has let his frustrations be known after seeing his former club suffer a 2-1 reverse in their opening group stage fixture of the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven.

The Red Devils took the lead through a fine goal from summer signing Memphis Depay only to concede twice to lose their first European game of the season. And Scholes remains less than convinced about the attacking options at the Old Trafford outfit.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, the ex-midfielder said: “The one thing United’s squad is now is short of goals. Short of real, top quality centre-forwards who guarantee you goals.”
He even slammed manager Louis van Gaal for not addressing the issues in the squad which he feels has left a previously unbalanced squad even more unbalanced.
“Van Gaal spoke last year about his squad being unbalanced and I think it’s even more unbalanced now without top strikers,” he added.
Scholes pointed to the depatures of key attacking players this summer, and is of the opinion keeping either of Robin van Persie or Javier Hernandez would have been better for the club as they had good goalscoring pedigree.
“They’ve let three or four strikers go. If we’d kept one of them, a Van Persie or a Hernandez, it looks quite strong, they can score goals, Van Persie and Hernandez can score goals, Martial could be a real threat coming off the bench,” said Scholes.
With Wayne Rooney left out of the squad last night due to injury, Van Gaal was forced to start with new signing Anthony Martial in what was the club’s return to the group stages of the Champions League after a year-long gap. The Red Devils’ lack of numbers in attack was shamefully exposed last weekend in the Premier League when they started with a midfielder, Marouane Fellaini, as the target man against Liverpool.
