Pedro holds transfer talks to return to Barcelona after just one season

Nov 16, 2024 10:45 AM

Chelsea forward Pedro has confirmed that he has held transfer talks over a possible return to Barcelona after just one season.

The Spanish International, who is currently on international duty for Euro 2016, joined Chelsea only last summer for a reported fee of £22 million but has since failed to make his mark in the Premier League.

Pedro featured in 27 league games for the Blues last season, scoring just seven goals and is now hoping for a shock-return to the Spanish champions before the start of next campaign.

“Hopefully (I can return to Barcelona) but I know it’s hard,” the 28-year-old told beIN Sports.

“I have already spoken about it with the president (Josep Maria Bartomeu) when we (Barcelona) were in the (Cup) final (when Barcelona beat Sevilla 2-0 last month) and spoke to all the people who want me there.

“It’s complicated, but I’ve always said that I would like to retire at Barcelona. However, I know it’s difficult because the years go by and the club has the best players in the world, it is a very demanding club and to return is complicated. But I do not rule it out either.”

Newly appointed Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be forced to make attacking reinforcements, were Pedro to leave the club this summer. The London club, meanwhile, are reportedly in talks to sign £40 million-rated Juventus striker Alvaro Morata.

“I had been 11 or 12 years in Barcelona, my family is from there and also many friends. The fans loved me, I felt very valued around the club, and it’s always hard to leave the club of your dreams,” the Spaniard added.

Pedro, who came through the youth ranks of Barcelona, has made over 200 league appearances for the Catalan club, winning five La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey and three Champions League titles.
