Peter Kenyon: Didier Drogba Won’t Leave Chelsea for Inter

Oct 5, 2024 6:40 PM

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has emphasized that their star striker Didier Drogba is not leaving Stamford Bridge, at least not in January.

Speaking to BBC Sport, the former Manchester United CEO said that the Ivory Coast international striker is not going anywhere. Drogba reportedly met officials from Italian champions Inter Milan whose manager Jose Mourinho, formerly at Chelsea of course, is eager to land the player at San Siro.

But Kenyon, refusing to make any concrete comment on Drogba meeting Inter Milan representatives, insisted that their star striker is to linger on at Stamford Bridge. He said, “Didier’s under contract for the next 18 months. He will be going nowhere in January. Whether people leave Chelsea is as much down to us as anybody else.

“I don’t know whether he did or he didn’t (meet Inter representatives).

“But he’s a big player for us and we want him back. He’s one of those players who can make a difference.”

Drogba is currently serving a three match ban for throwing a coin back into the crowd during the Carling Cup defeat at Burnley. His berth in the starting line-up has also been in jeopardy since the start of the season as he has have had to confront stiff competition from Nicolas Anelka.

So is Didier Drogba on his way out of the Bridge Let’s wait and watch. One thing’s for sure. We haven’t heard the last of the affair.
