Javier Hernandez scored the only goal of the match in the second half as Manchester United moved to the next round of the Capital One Cup tie beating arch-rivals Liverpool at the Old Trafford.

It was a thoroughly entertaining game where both the sides have had their moments. After an entertaining first-half that ended 0-0, United took the early lead in the second half. Hernandez slotted home from close range meeting Wayne Rooney’s corner in the box, after Steven Gerrard failed to mark him properly.

Chris Smalling said after the match: “It felt like it was end to end for the whole 90 minutes. It felt like a real cup tie.”

Jonny Evans also added: “Our fans enjoyed that one. We certainly enjoyed it. I’m sure it was great to watch for the neutrals. It was tough.”

Manchester United will face Norwich City in the fourth round of Capital One Cup at Old Trafford on 28th October.
