SOUTHWELL 1.00

PEUR DE RIEN (system – Kapgarde chasers, good to soft or faster going)

Since the beginning of 2017, progeny of the sire Kapgarde have a 71 from 406 record when racing over fences on good to soft or quicker going and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £44.36 to a £1 level stake at SP (taking the best early price the evening before racing would have boosted the profit to over £100). Oliver Sherwood’s PEUR DE RIEN was well held when falling at Warwick last time but has been freshened up by a 57-day break and he scored off a 4lb higher mark at this time last year.

WINCANTON 2.20

BALLYBLACK (system – Jeremy Scott, first run in a handicap hurdle)

Jeremy Scott hasn’t got the greatest strike-rate with his runners making their handicap hurdle debut – eight from 75 (10.7%) since 2014 – but backing them blind would have returned a profit of £51.50 to the usual £1 stake. Exeter maiden hurdle winner BALLYBLACK was unable to follow up at Ascot next time, finishing a 13-length third, but the fourth has won since and he looks the one to beat.

SOUTHWELL 3.20

HERECOMESHOGAN & WINDY COVE (system – Martin Keighley, Southwell jumps)

Trainer Martin Keighley is 35 from 190 with his jumpers at Southwell (18.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £58.37. He complicates matters by running two in this novices’ hurdle – stable debutante WINDY COVE and HERECOMESHOGAN but I’m happy to back both.
