Just yesterday we had quoted a story from Le 10 Sport which claimed Liverpool are already in negotiations to sign Olympique Lyon Alexandre Lacazette.

However the Reds have been dealt a massive blow in their pursuit of the French striker as Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas has claimed that Liverpool don’t have the money to sign the player in this summer transfer window.

Julien Laurens, a French football journalist confirmed the news through his Twitter Handle while the Independent have also reported Aulas’ quotes.

Aulas said, “Liverpool have never called, and as they are not playing in the Champions League, they don’t have the money, nor would they be able to interest him.”

Lacazette to Liverpool Aulas: "Remind me what European Cup they play in next season" Also says they never called + don't have the money.

Manchester United and Arsenal are also interested in Lacazette who scored 31 goals in 33 appearances helping Lyon finish second in the Ligue One standings and qualifying for the Champions League. Aulas had also earlier made it clear that even €50 million will not be enough to buy the 24 year old attacker.

There is no doubt that Liverpool are on the lookout for a new striker in the summer who can effectively lead the line up front. Mario Balotelli has cut a sorry ever since his summer move from AC Milan while Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert too have disappointed. Daniel Sturridge also struggled with injuries this season and will miss the beginning of the coming campaign.

While the fresh developments certainly rules Liverpool out of the race for Lacazette, the Reds will now have to look elsewhere to sign a striker of his quality to put an end to their goalscoring woes in the coming campaign.
