Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller has revealed he has rejected an astronomical offer from Manchester United in order to continue with the Bundesliga winners.
The 24-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford after Louis van Gaal was appointed the manager of the Red Devils following the departure of David Moyes just after 10 months into his six year contract.
Muller ended the speculation surrounding his future by signing a new deal to extend his stay at the Allianz Arena. His current deal runs down in 2019.
The forward says there were several clubs interested in his services who had significantly offered him a higher wages. However, he decided to snub a chance to join foreign clubs to continue with his current employers.
“Of course, I was aware that I could theoretically earn more with a transfer,” Muller told German newspaper Bild.
“The sums that were standing by from foreign clubs were already astronomical. I can only say: For me, a change was never really an issue anyway. FC Bayern is my club.”
United have failed to strengthen their squad as they have managed to add Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo. The latter’s deal was completed on Tuesday and the Red Devils are still in the market to bolster their squad for the new campaign.
