Tottenham midfielder Sandro will be out of action for minimum four months following a knee surgery that could hamper the club’s transfer plans in the January transfer window.

During last Saturday’s Premier League clash with Queens Park Rangers that ended in a goal less draw, Sandro hobbled off in pain after landing awkwardly twisting his right knee.

Initially Spurs hoped that he merely has twisted his knee and that he might face leaders Manchester United on coming Sunday but after having an operation in Barcelona, the club fears that Sandro could miss the rest of the season.

The injury of the Brazilian has put Tottenham’s transfer plans in jeopardy. Spurs were willing to let two of their midfielders – Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore – leave the club in the winter transfer window but following the injury, they might change the plans.

While Livermore is expected to join QPR on loan, Huddlestone could leave the club permanently with Fulham his possible destination.

Sandro, 23, has been in terrific form this season forging a strong central midfield partnership with Mousa Dembele who arrived from Fulham in the summer.

However, his absence will pave the way automatically for Scott Parker, who could make his first start of the season in Premier League against the Red Devils after recovering from an Achilles injury.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas could also consider making a move for the 22-year-old Schalke 04 midfielder Lewis Holtby who has signed an agreement to join the North London club on a free transfer in the summer.

Earlier Villas-Boas rubbished the idea of bringing the Germany international at the club in January by paying a small fee but Sandro’s injury could force him to rethink about that possibility.

Former Spurs striker Robbie Keane will train with the club for the next couple of weeks but a loan deal for the Irishman hasn’t been considered as yet.
