Soccerlens Podcast – The State of Scottish Football

Oct 23, 2024 1:58 PM

On the second episode of the Soccerlens Podcast, Stephen Darwin is joined by the Guardian’s Scottish Football Correspondent Ewan Murray as we take a closer look at all the prevalent issues currently at the forefront of the beautiful game in Scotland.

In particular we look at the SPL’s proposal to create a new SPL2 division and whether it’s implementation will be revolutionary or just simply the Scottish First Division with a somewhat unimaginative new name.

We also talk about the prospects for the future of Scottish football, player movement (and the considerable lack of it) in and out of the country, the Team GB debate and whether Scotland are on the road to South Africa 2010.

Among the topics discussed with Ewan Murray were:

The SPL2 and how it may affect the structure of the Scottish league systemThe reasons for a lack of Scottish players plying their trade abroadWhat the SPL needs to do to attract more foreign playersScotland’s chances of World Cup 2010 qualificationTeam GB and why there is such a Scottish resistancePlus more on top of that!
