‘Holland crushed World Cup holders Spain 5-1 in Salvador on Friday evening, with Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben both scoring braces.

Van Persie, who celebrated with manager Louis van Gaal after his first goal, and Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben were magnificent throughout, putting the Spanish to bed with four goals between them, with Stefan De Vrij’s header completing the rout.

Xabi Alonso opened the scoring for Spain form the spot in the first half before RVP equalised for Holland just before the break.
