Toni Kroos has been talking to Louis van Gaal to discuss a potential move to Manchester United. Apologies to those Manchester United fans who think that they are reading an article from a month ago.
According to Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, van Gaal called Kroos to see how he saw his future with Bayern Munich. Moreover Kroos still has a bee in his bonnet about his wages, which are substantially lower than some of his peers at the club. This has been a constant bone of contention for him, which has prompted a resurgence of talk about his departure.
Toni Kroos Will Attract Other Big Clubs
Of course, when a player like Toni Kroos puts himself in the shop window, there will be other suitors. Needless to say, Real Madrid are circling and would almost certainly make a bid. There are however, two things in Manchester United`s favour. Firstly, he has a very close relationship with van Gaal emanating from his time when he was manager at Bayern Munich. Secondly, Manchester United have the cash to pay for transfers should they need to. That is unlike Real Madrid who will almost certainly have to broker some kind of stage payments deal.
Toni Kroos recently poured cold water over transfer talk by stating that he would be staying at Bayern for next season. However, his deal runs out at the end of next season which means he will be a free agent. Moreover, he would be able to talk to other clubs about a move from January onwards. It is therefore highly likely that should the contract talks not progress, and they have been stalled for some considerable time, that Bayern will force a move on the player rather than let him leave for free next season.
Despite all the rhetoric in the media, according to the Metro, local Manchester newspaper, van Gaal still retains an interest in Toni Kroos. Furthermore, he is still keen on bringing the player to Old Trafford should he become available.
