TYSON FURY has today confirmed that he is officially retiring from the sport of boxing. The two-time heavyweight champion of the world was talking of a return to the ring in a trilogy bout with Derek Chisora, but has today confirmed he will not fight again.

For the second time since his win at Wembley Stadium against Dillian Whyte a few months back, Tyson Fury has called time on his boxing career, stating that he will no longer fight and has no plans of stepping into the boxing ring ever again.

Tyson Fury Announces Retirement

Tyson Fury has just now taken to social media to confirm his retirement from boxing.

Fury, the two-time heavyweight champion of the world, has decided to call time on his career on his 34th birthday which is today.

If this is to be an official retirement, Fury was one of the best British heavyweights we have ever seen, right up there with Lennox Lewis. Fury retires with a record of 32-0-1 and calls time without ever being beaten inside the professional ring.

Could We See Fury Back In The Ring

It remains to be seen whether this retirement from Fury will last, as he has been known to say things in the past and not follow through with it.

Just earlier this week Fury was hinting at a trilogy bout with long-term British rival, Derek Chisora, who he has already beaten twice. ‘The Gypsy King’ was chatting about making the trilogy fight with ‘Del Boy’ at Old Trafford before the end of the year, but now has decided to retire.

There is no doubt Fury will say things in the weeks and months ahead, hinting at a return or not, but one thing is for sure, Tyson Fury is pure entertainment. If his sixth round knockout victory over Dillian Whyte is to be his last hurrah in the ring, then what a sensational note to finish it on.

What This Means For The Heavyweight Division

As Fury was the WBC world heavyweight champion, this means the belt will now become vacant.

Former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, may well get a shot right away at the title now that it has no owner.

Another twist could be that the WBC decide to throw the belt into next Saturday’s heavyweight unification fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua, meaning the winner would become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Now that Fury has officially retired, or so he says, the green and gold belt could find a new owner in the not so distant future.
