Watford 1-4 Manchester United – 2007 FA Cup Semi Final

Nov 20, 2024 9:16 AM

Manchester United skipped, strolled and sauntered past Watford without as much as a hint of discomfort (despite the bloody EVDS nose and the Rio groin tweak) and are now in the FA Cup final, again.

Score: Watford 1-4 Manchester United

Watford Preview

They would have prefered to play Blackburn, but the mere fact that Watford are in the semifinals of the FA Cup despite being relegations favorites in the Premiership is already a miracle (and a testament to the fact that cup form is no bearer on the team’s quality).

Watford will be hoping that the fatigue from playing Champions League football will take it’s toll on Manchester United, but that won’t be help enough.

What chances do Watford have Very few – the last time Manchester United played Watford they beat them 4-0 at Old Trafford.

Manchester United Preview

The Watford game comes smack in the middle of two home games, a Champions League qtr final tie against Roma and a league home game against Sheffield United. Manchester United are quite likely to rotate their squad, with Roma facing the best players before the rest get a chance or two against Watford and Sheffield United.

Manchester United’s biggest problem in this game will be dealing with their own demons – the result of the CL qtr final, their own league form and that of Chelsea’s will all combine to put a lot of pressure on United. The players are good enough to be rotated and win (despite Saha being injured), but fatigue and pressure will still count and it will be interesting to see what approach Aidy Bothroyd uses to this game.

Watford vs Manchester United Predictions

Potentially without Saha, United are too strong a prospect for Watford – it’s simply a matter of time before Watford make a mistake and Ronaldo/Rooney/Giggs/Scholes profit from it.
