Arsenal are trailing by 3-1 in the first leg, but manager Arsene Wenger believes his side can overcome the deficit and register a historic win against Monaco in the second leg of the Round of 16 Champions League tie.
Buoyed by the 3-0 London derby win over West Ham on Saturday, Wenger hopes to ride on with the momentum and has vowed to give everything to win the match.
Wenger said, quoted by BBC: “We have a massive challenge but we will give absolutely everything to try and go through.
“They are favourites but we can reverse it. We have to make sure the spirit, the belief and the desire is there.”
Wenger’s side must score three goals to progress and at the same time they must not conceded more than a goal to keep their hopes alive.
German international Mesut Ozil believes that getting the first goal early in Monaco will be key as it would boost the team’s morale and confidence.
Monaco have defended well in the tournament so far, so scoring past three against them, that too at home, will be a difficult task. Then again, in football, stranger things have happened in the past!
