Marouane Fellaini could leave Everton if any club triggers the buy out clause in his contract thought to be around the £22 million mark.

Fellaini has expressed a desire to stay at Everton beyond this season but only if the club can secure Champions League football. This could open up the floor to Manchester United and Chelsea this summer, who have both been linked with the Belgian.

Fellaini has proved himself to be an extreme attacking threat for Everton this season with his height allowing him to compete for the ball aerially and his control meaning he is good enough to hold the ball up or drop deeper into the midfield.

He represents the strong and aggressive sort of player which both United and Chelsea are currently missing. Both clubs will also see key players leaving this summer; Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs for United and Frank Lampard for Chelsea.

Fellaini is contracted to Everton until the summer of 2016 which means the only way he’ll be moved on is if a club triggers the buy out clause or if Everton negotiate a deal with another club willingly.

In terms of resources neither United or Chelsea would have a problem coming up with the cash which would fund a possible transfer and neither would have any problem putting a competitive wage packet in front of the Belgian, likely to be higher than what he’s already earning at Goodison Park.

United would be in pole position to sign him if he did signal an interest in moving away from Everton. This is because Fellaini already lives in Manchester having recently moved to get away from the attention he receives in Merseyside.

All Everton can hope for is that he maintains his form over the rest of the season and adds to the nine goals he has already scored. If they do manage to finish fourth then it would be surprising to see Fellaini seek out a move to another club.
